Elder Jake Hough, 11.4.19--week 67

[No weekly email from Elder Hough]

Last night, right at 6pm Ohio time (when Preparation Day and communication with the family for the missionaries ends), Jake quickly texted me through Google Hangouts and said he was trying something different this week. A video letter. But it wouldn't upload. He's really sorry about that!

In case anyone is interested, you can send letters/packages directly to him. His mailing address is:

Elder Jake Hough
1451 Limba Drive
Springfield, Ohio 45504

He should be there through the week before Thanksgiving. I would give it another ten days to be safe until we know about transfers.

We texted very little yesterday and the first thing he asked for was money. Haha! He said he needed some winter clothes. He said "the cold is SOOOOOOO bad, so soon!" He was suffering from some feverish symptoms one day last week. We did just send him to Hungary not too long ago, so I told him I thought he was good to go with his winter coat, Russian hat/scarf. He said he's good on the hat and scarf, but he needs a waterproof coat. Apparently it had been pouring rain and then snowing before Halloween and declared that "it is five times worse than Hungary in November."

Not wanting my missionary to get pneumonia, I transferred a small set amount of money to him and hoped it would be enough. Later that afternoon, he texted me to say that he "had a miracle purchase. It was a blessing for opening our mouths." He found a really nice waterproof coat for skiers that he loved but it was $200. More money than I sent him. He asked the clerk to scan it and check and it was actually $120. Then while he and his companion were talking with the clerk about her family and their purpose as missionaries, she offered 20% off of the $120 and the ski gloves he found were also on sale. So the grand total actually came to $10 less than what I sent Jake for his winter gear purchases. We both thought that was pretty awesome!

And that's about all I know! Jake hasn't answered my inquiries about how he's feeling and if the medications are carrying him through adequately. He was counseled by the sleep medicine doctor to take the 200 mg. tablet and cut it in half and just take 100 mg. in the morning to see how he does. And if he feels himself dragging a bit, to take the other half pill before 1 or 2pm to pull him through. He never had to take a full dose of the day time med while he was here at home. But I did hear from Jared last week that Jake's doing a lot of biking--more than they ever did in Hungary and one day, he took the second half pill when he was feeling more tired than usual. But he wasn't slogging through or nodding off. And he got through the day with fairly normal fatigue. So that was good to hear.

On another note, we did get Jake's second "mission call" from President Russell M. Nelson, a few days ago, confirming he was reinstated as a full-time missionary and assigned to the Ohio Cincinnati Mission--two weeks after Jake left. :) Unfortunately, we didn't find out when his return day would be in that letter, so our amazing Stake President, Nate Sharp, looked that up for us (while he was getting on a plane to fly home from Chicago!). Elder Hough's completion date is set for December 14, 2020. And he'll leave for college about 10 days after that!

Thanks for reading and following along on Jake's 28 month mission journey!!
Love,
Jenn
