Mon. 1st--Karcyn, Ashley, and Rolo. Time to say goodbye. They sure enjoyed the short time they had together. We drove Ashley to meet her mom in Gail about 45 minutes away.
Tues. 2nd--This adorable painting showed up in the mail unexpectedly. My sweet and talented sister, Shell, took up painting during Covid. Which is really inspiring actually. She also made me two lighthouse pillowcases that I already put on my pillows and forgot to get a picture of them.Fri. 5th--Calvin resting after tennis two a days. Rolo keeping him company.
*Rolo working his magic on Jared's glasses that he wears at night. *sigh* They were left on his nightstand and Rolo got to them by getting up on the bed. The little stinker.
*It was our niece/cousin, Amaya's, 3rd birthday, so we celebrated with a little water fun and dinner at her house. The boys from Primary (Korbin, JJ, Johnathan, and Zack) had some fun with water shooters.
JJ finally having the "high ground" and nailing Calvin when he got in the pool.
*The missionaries came by for a visit after the party. Olivia talked Calvin into parting his hair down the middle instead of to the side to make him look older. I'm not sure how I feel about the new style. We'll see...*Jared and I drove to Lubbock for a temple session at 9am and afterwards, we walked over to the stake center for our friend's baptism at 11am. We're super happy for Lee and his family. And we're extremely grateful that Karole was willing to drive our kids up to Lubbock for us so we could attend the temple.
*Lee and Elder Hagman--incidentally, Elder Hagman was supposed to go home 4-6 months ago, but there was a clerical error of sorts, so he just kept on serving. If he had left when he was supposed to, he wouldn't have been in Snyder to teach and later baptize Lee. So cool. What a way to really end your mission!
Sun. 7th--We invited Jared's new PA student, Luke Waddell, and his wife for dinner. Korbin came over for a little bit and so did the Elders.
After the baptism the day before, we capitalized on the fact we were all in the big city and took the kids to lunch, shopping for shoes, got Calvin a bike so he can ride to/from tennis practice if nothing else, and went to Sams Club and HEB before going home. We always treat new missionaries to HEB chocolate milk...which could be marketed as a shake for as thick and rich as it is. So they came by to get their treats.
Elder Jensen, Elder Jacobson, and Elder Hagman.
Tues. 9th--A very tired Karcyn at 2:00 in the afternoon.
*Pretty much.
Wed. 10th--Meet the (tennis) Tigers! Where's Calvin? (Fourth from left, yellow shirt, gray shorts).
Fri. 12th--Calvin put Rolo in a cinch sack as if he were going to take him on a bike ride with him. There's no doubt Rolo fits...he's 70% fluffy fur.
Sat. 13th--It's hard to believe it's been five years since my father-in-law passed away. Seems like AGES ago. So much has happened since then and sometimes I still expect to see him around. He left a huge hole in all of our lives.
As if a tribute to Doc, Jared was driving to the outer banks of Snyder off of the 208 with NOTHING around for miles to borrow a wood splitter, when the suburban seized up and just died. Fortunately, he was able to turn it around and get it off the road before it completely stopped.
Normally, this would probably be extremely upsetting. But when Jared told me, all I could do was express my tearful gratitude to Heavenly Father. This was a testimony to me that HE LOVES ME! Why? Because this could have happened just two weeks ago when I was driving to New Mexico, alone, towing a trailer full of food for girls camp or even on the way home. Either way would have been a high stress disaster. Sure, it's an inconvenience, but it doesn't matter because I'm so blessed!
Sun. 14th--Rolo letting Jared know he'd like some of his banana. Banana is Rolo's "crack." If there's a banana nearby, Rolo will be on top of you. He can hear you open one. He can smell them from the opposite end of the house. He'll lock his eyes on you while you eat it until you choose to share. And then once it's gone, he'll just leave. You are no longer any good to him. Haha!
*Thursday the 11th was JJ's golden birthday--11 years old! We had too many things on our docket that day, so we told JJ we'd do our family party on Sunday. Everyone came over for gifts and cake and ice cream at 5:30. It's nice to have the extended family nearby, or it would be a lot lonelier.
James giving Calvin a big bear hug before leaving.
Ahhh, you can just feel the love.
JJ loving his dart gun gifts and vest from the cousins. He is locked and loaded.
*JJ got a Kendama of his own and Hagman was showing him some tips and tricks with it.
Twins!
Wed. 17th--2 Timothy 1:7--For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."
Our family voted on this scripture as our theme for the 2022-2023 school year. One way to really open our hearts and minds to God's love and power is by reading the scriptures. We're all reading in different places throughout the standard works, but we're trying really hard to gather together in the mornings to put on this spiritual armor as a family before we part ways.
Happy First day of School! Karcyn, 11th grade, Calvin, 9th grade at Snyder High School.
JJ, 5th grade at Ira School. Thurs. 18th--The second day of school and I actually subbed at the Jr. High for Calvin's old football coach. In fact, Coach McQuirk actually asked if I was related to Calvin and I said yes, that I was my mom. He said Calvin was a great kid and that he missed him. I thought that was really sweet.
That night, we had dinner with the elders and Jen Calley because it would be our last with Elder Hagman.
Jen Calley, our neighbor, made this sweet tribute for Elder Hagman. So sweet. She was at many of the dinners we had with the missionaries so it made sense that she would be there as we sent him on his way back home. We will miss this fine young man! Can't wait to see what wonderful things he does in the future.
The BEST part of the whole night: because the boys were dressed for the priesthood meeting and in their suits, so many people just assumed they were cos playing (dressing up) as brothers, Dean and Sam, from Supernatural. People wanted to take pictures of them so they just played along. :) They may not be Dean and Sam, but they are definitely two very handsome young men.
Wed. 24th--I was supposed to sub in Kindergarten again and started out there. But right before school started, I was asked to go to one of the Junior High classes. It's easier for Keva to find someone to sub in the elementary hall than it is Jr. High. But I'll go wherever I'm needed. Emily wasn't happy about it when she heard I was being pulled, though. And I get that. I'd been with her kids for the past three days (longer than Emily had before she got sick) and now the class had to adjust to someone new.

Fri. 19th--At 6:45am, just as I was getting ready to walk out the door to drive JJ to the morning bus stop, I got a text from Keva--she's the secretary at Ira school. She asked if I could cover Kindergarten that day. Emily, the Kindergarten teacher, doesn't do anything last minute unless it's an emergency. I didn't have anything going for the day so I could do it. I was still in my jammies though and told Keva as much. Told her I'd get there as fast as I could.
This was the THIRD day of their school CAREER for these 20 kindergarteners. It was going to be interesting. As I got to the elementary hall, a few teachers saw me and were relieved to realize I was the one covering for Emily.
It was actually a decent day, all things considered. There was even nap time! For the kids, not for me, sadly. Haha! I'm happy to report I survived and said I would cover kindergarten Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday as well.
For a fun way to end the first week of school, Jared and I took JJ and Korbin to get some handcrafted ice cream and the new shop called The Spot.
I'm not an ice cream fan, but the cookie dough was "spot" on. Soooo good.
*There was an activity with the young women, a Spa Night, and Calvin was invited to join. He got pampered and experimented on. Haha! The rule is, if you have a mullet, no ponytail allowed. So we got a picture before he took it out.
Manis and Pedis.
Sat. 20th--There was a Lubbock Comic Con that Cooper was planning to go to and he invited Calvin to join him. There was also a Stake Priesthood meeting for ages 8 and older at 7pm. In order to maximize their time at the comic con, Cooper and Calvin went in their church suits and would meet Jared and JJ at the stake center. Around 7:45pm, I got this text from Calvin. He said he was broke again, but that it was so worth it! He was excited to tell me all about it when they got home later.
So happy to see all my menfolk together at a priesthood meeting--and in front of the Lubbock Temple, no less.
Cooper was in hog heaven. He got a smoking deal on a katana sword.
Calvin was trying to be serious for a picture, but struggled a bit.
Cooper requesting that Calvin stop growing. (Yeah, right). But they had fun at the comic con.The BEST part of the whole night: because the boys were dressed for the priesthood meeting and in their suits, so many people just assumed they were cos playing (dressing up) as brothers, Dean and Sam, from Supernatural. *For her wedding, Trina wore her mom's wedding dress. Sadly, Trina has become estranged from her parents shortly after she and Jake got married. Trina wasn't very happy with the spirit behind her bridal photos (or the dress) and had a friend retake some for them. Trina definitely seems more relaxed and happy than she did the year before in a dress that she wanted.
Mon. 22nd--Rolo getting ready to say goodbye to everyone for the day (and get in the crate).
Tues. 23rd--This was the last Theory vs. Skill sport shot bowling tournament for the summer--the BIG Kahuna--and both Cooper and Calvin attended. This tournament had not one, but two, crazy oil patterns. Out of the 33 adult bowlers, Cooper placed 5th going into the step ladder round. He beat the fourth place contestant, but lost to the 3rd, finishing out in 4th place. And he walked away with $300 in cash! What a night!
Out of nine youth, Calvin came in dead last. Haha! That's just one of the reasons that make this sport so wildly dynamic! One day you're hot, and the next you're not. Like literally the next day. You just never know. It definitely keeps things exciting.
*This was also Mr. Early's birthday. JJ made him a card. He wrote: "Dear Mr. Early, I hope you have a very happy birthday and I think of you as my grandpa. You're the best. Thank you for being nice and letting me talk to you. Love, JJ" I surely made Mr. Early's day.
Thurs. 25th--Calvin walked on to the JV tennis team, brand new to the sport and he won his very first singles match, 8-5. He said it was all so much fun--even losing in doubles 5-8.

*Becky Cypert, Griffin's mom, was kind enough to take these pictures of our boys playing doubles together and send them to me from the tournament since I couldn't attend.
Sat. 27th--JJ turned 11 more than two weeks ago, but because of end of summer plans and coordinating schedules with friends, we had his party at the end of August. His friends all came: Daniel Rosson, Jackson Wall, and cousin Korbin. It was a party of games. They played Mario Cart on the Nintendo Switch.
It got intense!
They played Tenzies dice game.
And Telestrations.
Such a funny one!
And ate personal pizzas from Pizza Hut.
With ice cream for a treat. Show us your double 1s, JJ!! :)
Sun. 28th--JJ and Korbin looking at a book together before church started.
*There was a Pioneer Trek Fireside up in Lubbock Sunday evening. We drove up for it and ran into some weather on the way there.
I love a good storm! We were driving right into it. Fortunately, we were able to get cover in the church building before the main storm hit.
Then we drove home in some pretty heavy rains, but enjoyed some remarkable rainbows and a pretty intense sunset fighting through the receding storm.
Mon. 29th--I love Texas sunrises and sunsets. It's a toss up on which is more beautiful. Even with an extremely dirty windshield, you can still see the intense colors of this sunrise on my morning "commute" to the Ira bus stop. *It was Jake's first day of school! Here he is walking out the door.
